The Feltham Green cabin was officially opened by Queen musician Brian May, and Freddie Mercury’s sister, Kashmira Bulsara, on 19th September 2025. It was commissioned by Hounslow Council, which worked closely with the Friends of Feltham Green to create a base for our volunteering activities and for wider community use.
The cabin is located on Feltham High Street, between the Freddie Mercury memorial garden and the duck pond on Feltham Green. The building's most distinctive feature is its roof, which comprises three timber cones of varying heights. The building is clad in lightweight FSC-certified poplar plywood, finished in natural tones that echo the bark of the nearby mature plane trees. The two flanking gabion walls are part-filled with salvaged materials donated by local residents and function as insect hotels.
Environmental performance was central to the cabin’s design, which comprises compacted rubble foundations and an all-timber superstructure. A continuous external insulation layer, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, solar panels with battery storage, and rainwater harvesting for irrigation all combine to make the cabin a net zero building in operation.
The cabin’s flexible interior accommodates everything from volunteer gardening sessions to local history displays or private meetings, while the open, transparent frontage means passers-by can see the activity contained within, helping to animate the town centre.

Q: What are the cabin’s opening hours?
A: The cabin is run by volunteers and is only open when a pre-arranged activity is taking place. This might be an event open to the public, such as an art display by Feltham Arts or a private event such as a meditation workshop or a meeting.

Q: How many people can the cabin accommodate and what facilities are there?
A: We will send you full details when you contact us but in brief, the cabin can accommodate up to approx. 25 people. We supply tables and chairs, and display boards. There are power sockets and a small kitchenette with drinking water. Please note the cabin doesn’t have a WC but toilets are available at the library across the road during opening hours.
Q: When is the cabin available for hire?
A: The cabin can be hired seven days a week at any reasonable hour. It is heated so is suitable for year-round use.
Q: How much does it cost to hire the cabin?
A: We keep prices as low as possible and only charge what is needed to cover the cabin’s running costs. The charge for charities and voluntary groups is £10 an hour; the charge for small, local businesses is £15 an hour. Please contact us about charges for other types of bookings.
